Runaway Bride

Hollywood has always excelled in producing romantic comedies. Although this American film industry has produced some great works on different genres, it has earned a distinction in this genre. Runaway Bride, a 1999 romantic comedy is another specimen of the potential of this industry. The two major stars acting in the movie are Richard Gere and Julia Roberts. Directed by Garry Marshall, the Runaway Bride was a sure success in the box office. The polished acting of the mega stars and well executed direction are the major attractions which draws the attention of the movie-goers.

The character assigned to Julia Roberts is Maggie Carpenter. She portrayed a vibrant and an attractive young woman who has had a number of unsuccessful relationships. She has earned the notorious nickname Runaway Bride, for her habit of keeping men wait upon her and not to turn up on the wedding day. The plot of the story is so well tied that it never seemed that the director has digressed from the subject. It is the sheer skill and screen persona of Julia Roberts which has made the movie a real success.

Like other romantic movies of the past, Runaway Bride has all the ingredients to entertain its audience. The movie reaches a height of interest when Julia met, reporter Ike Graham. Richard Gere has excelled in the role assigned to him. Although the movie has not been able to be as successful as their previous blockbuster Pretty Woman, it was yet a great attempt by the director and the stars. The movie was attached with a tagline, ‘Catch her if you can’. The sweet end of the story was quite predictable and the two of them got married in a private ceremony. In the end, they rode away on horseback.

While Julia Roberts acted as Maggie Carpenter and Richard Gere as Ike Graham, Christopher Meloni was gifted with a screen name Bob Kelly.

Runaway Bride, which was written by Josann McGibbon was released in 1999. The running time of the movie is 116 min. The movie had a budget of $70,000,000. Much of the reputation about Runaway Bride is due to the excellent display of acting by the cast and perfect handling of the plot. The credit should also go to the musicians for offering some wonderful melodies to the movie. If you have not watched the movie, buy a DVD and enjoy the experience.
