Hollywood has produced some of the greatest romantic movies of all time. Made by some of the greatest film directors and portrayed by talented actors, these romantic movies are considered classics and are favorites to people of all ages. Filmed a long time back when technology was not as advanced as it is today, these romantic movies are great examples of art. Roman Holiday is one such masterpiece made in Hollywood. Roman Holiday is in fact one of the greatest romantic movies ever made.
Filmed way back in the year 1953, Roman Holiday is actually a romantic comedy. Gregory Peck, one of the best Hollywood actors of the time played the male lead in the film with Belgian born actress Audrey Hepburn and Eddie Elbert. Roman Holiday was the debut film for Audrey Hepburn who later earned recognition as one of the best film actresses of all time. The story of Roman Holiday was written by author Dalton Trumboand John Dighton and it was produced and directed by William Wyler.
The story of Roman Holiday is wonderful. Princess Ann (portrayed by Audrey Hepburn) is the princess of a country who is on her official tour to European countries. But one day Ann decides to get out of her scheduled official duties and plans to enjoy the day in her own way. Though her doctor had given her sedative for sleeping, she manages to leave her country's embassy unnoticed to explore the beauty of Rome.
But as the sedative takes effect, Ann feels dizzy and falls asleep on a public bench. This is where she meets Joe Bradley (portrayed by Gregory Peck) who works as a reporter in an American newspaper.

But Joe cannot recognize Ann as she does not disclose her identity. Ann introduces herself as Anya Smith. Joe first offers money to Anya so that she can get back home by catching a taxi but as she refuses, he allows her to spend the night in his apartment.
Next morning Joe goes to work, keeping Anya alone in his apartment and is rebuked by his editor for not covering the press conference with the princess. Joe tries to give details of an imaginary interview but does not succeed as his editor says that the princess had fallen ill suddenly. Watching the photograph of the princess, Joe realizes that she is the woman who is sleeping in his apartment and bet with his editor for getting her interview.

| Joe then plans to show Rome to Anya and appoints his photographer friend (portrayed by Eddie Albert) to take the pictures of the princess without her knowledge. At the end of Roman Holiday, Ann comes to know that she was being fooled by a reporter for getting an interview but forgives him. There are several romantic scenes in Roman Holiday especially in the scenes that were shot in Rome, in the Mouth of Truth.
