Released worldwide in the year 1997, My Best Friend's Wedding is one of the biggest Billboard hits and earned tremendous commercial and critical success.
Directed by P J Johan, one of the most reputed film directors in Hollywood, My Best Friend's Wedding-the movie is actually a romantic comedy with an unusual climax. There are several funny scenes in the movie which have been very entertaining for the people. The credit goes to, the outstanding performance by reputed filmstars like Julia Roberts, Dermot Mulroney, Cameron Diaz, Rupert Everett and Rachel Griffiths. The movie also features a super hit romantic song 'I say a little prayer (for you) sung by Diana King.
The story of My Best Friend's Wedding is very romantic. Julianne Potter (played by Julia Roberts) a 28 year old spinster and a New York restaurant critic and Michael O’Neal (Dermot Mulroney) are best friends. Both had made a promise to each other that if by the age of 28 they do not get married to anyone else, they would getmarried to each other. However, suddenly one day Julianne comes to know that her best friend Michael is getting married to some other girl. Julianne gets panicky and thinks she will lose her best friend for life if he gets married and decides to sabotage the wedding.

According to her plan, Julianne heads for Chicago, the venue of Michael's wedding with Kimberly 'Kimmy' Wallace (played by Cameron Diaz). As she reaches the wedding venue, Michael introduces Jullianne to Kimberly Wallace as his friend and suddenly Kimberly asks her to be her maid of honor. Jullianne finds herself in a dilemma. She tries to be a dutiful maid of honor for Kimberly on one hand but looks for opportunities for sabotaging the wedding on the other.
When Julianne sees the plan beginning to fail she quickly makes up a story of a fake engagement between herself and her gay friend George (played by Rupert Everett). But all her plans fail repeatedly and finally Julianne has to admits to Kimberly and Michael that she is love with Michael.

But unlike many other romantic movies, at the end of My Best Friend's Wedding, Julianne and Michael do not get united and he marries Kimberly. Julianne is seen dancing on the wedding party with George.
Rupert Everett won several awards for his outstanding performance in My Best Friend's Wedding and the movie itself won the nomination for Academy Awards.
