Erin started delving into the related factors of this case and finally was convinced that the facts simply lead to something else. She also persuaded Ed to let her do more researching on this issue.

In the process of her investigation she met the locals of the American West Coast area. Finally, with their feedbacks and data she was able to expose the real case of industrial poisoning of the water supply in the Hinkley town with Hexavalent chromium which threatened the health of the residents in that region. She fought to bring about the residents of the town to justice against the company which was trying hard to cover up the issue.
This movie received a favorable response from the movie critics. Despite being a real life story, this movie features certain discrepancies and alterations from the real life events. According to most critics Erin Brockovich is one movie which established Julia Roberts as an actor who was capable of doing serious roles other than portraying romantic characters.
