Elvira Madigan was a famous Danish circus artist and a trick rider. The movie, Elvira Madigan, is based on the illicit relationship between Lieutenant Count Bengt Edvard Sixten Sparre. The way their life took a fairytale turn and the way these two people handled diificult situations of life has been bound together to draw a well made structure for the screenplay.

Suddenly she happens to meet Lieutenant Sixten Sparre. He was a Swedish officer who was already married. That lieutenant even had two children. Hedvig Jensen eloped with Sixten Sparre. Sixten deserted the army and thereafter he did not get any job.
