Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility has been enacted on the silver screen on 13th December 1995 and earned worldwide applause under the matured direction of Ang Lee. Emma Thompson was in the screenplay making a spectacular presentation enthralling the audiences with breathtaking performance. The actors James Fleet as John Dashwood, Kate Winslet as Marianne Dashwood, Emma Thompson herself, as Elinor Dashwood and Hugh Grant as Edward Ferrers showed fantabulous performance that enthralled a large number of audience. Another cinematic version of the fabulous novel Sense and Sensibility is to be released on 30th March 2008 in the United States of America under the able direction of John Alexander and screenplay by Andrew Davies.

The story centers on the characters of two Dashwood sisters, Marianne and Elinor who suffer financially after the demise of their father and are disinherited from the property by their half brother, John Dashwood and his covetous wife Fanny, played by James Fleet and Harriet Walter. The plot thickens when they are offered some accommodation and assistance by one of their distant cousins and get entangles into a romantic relationship with two young men, one being the rich and flashy Edward Ferrars- with whom Elinor falls in love. Marianne falls for the dashing Mr. Willoughby, the character being skillfully crafted by Hugh Grant. In Sense and Sensibility- the movie, the viewers gradually get entangled into the comedy of manners when these young men and women find themselves in petty confusions that apparently appear to them, quite hard to handle.

The movie is not only a romantic drama but also a thoroughly enjoyable comedy when the lovebirds, Hugh Grant and Kate Winslet discover themselves in the pristinity of romance when all misunderstandings, pride and personal problems vanish in thin air. The most fascinating thing about Sense and Sensibility is the happy ending when the audience get back their peace of mind, seeing the two pairs of lovers in fulfilling embrace. The rich interplay of characters and the tactful presentation of events along with the excellent cinematography upholds the flavor of neo-classicism in the movie, making us watch the spectacular performance again and again. This film on Sense and Sensibility upholds the torment in every young lover in finding balance between the sensibility and the sense in choosing the perfect life partner.
