Pride and Prejudice

The famous Hollywood based director Joe Wright used his rare talents to produce the movie version of Pride and Prejudice, the most fascinating novel of all times. The movie Pride and Prejudice was released on 23rd November 2005 in the United States of America and soon gained popularity all over the world. The cinematic version of Jane Austen's inspiring novel won a large audience worldwide, not only due to the intriguing storyline but also due to the spectacular cinematography, screenplay and direction. Pride and Prejudice-the movie presents the original romantic saga as reflected in the novel in such an elegant way that it won the hearts of millions.

Those who had gone through the story in Pride and Prejudice went over to watch the movie, along with many others who heard the name for the first time in their lives. With the enigmatic presentation of the romance upheld in Austen's original work, the movie centers around the character of an young girl of an English background, called Elizabeth Bennet and her other sisters living in a country house. While all her sisters being young girls, show their fancies in elegant dresses and evening parties, Elizabeth or Lizzie, seems a little introvert and feels awkward to present herself in front of fine young men. The film portrays the character of Lizzie in such an explicit way that it brings out the likes and dislikes of the sensitive young girls going through the difficult age of adolescence.

The character of Lizzie being played by Keira Knightly elegantly portrays the pleasures and pains of a teenage girl in imperial England, when moonlit nights and evening parties were the greatest outlets for romance. Though Lizzie denies with herself and never wants to fall in love, she soon finds herself in a dilemma with a young man called Darcy, wonderfully played by Matthew Macfadyen. The role played by Macfadyen is fascinating with a rich interplay of emotions and styles.
Macfadyen on playing the character of Darcy, simply enthralls the audience when he throws the look of pride mixed with the instinctive softness of love for young Lizzie. After much turmoil, the story ends with the two young people surrendering their love to each other after giving away their pride. The prejudice they held within, soon vanishes in thin air and their prides ultimately bow before eternal love.

The performance of Donald Sutherland as Lizzie's father, Mr. Bennet was also spectacular along with Simon Woods as Mr. Bingley. The most marvelous thing about Pride and Prejudice is the professional mastery shown by Joe Wright in blending the cinematography and the screenplay together to uphold the romanticism portrayed in Austen's original masterpiece.

The movie won Oscar nominations in various fields, with awards granted to Sarah Greenwood for Art Direction and Katie Spencer for Set Direction, along with Dario Marianelli for Music and Jacqueline Durran for Costume Design. Keira Knightly won the best leading actress award. Along with Oscar, the American Editors Association Award and BAFTA Award were granted for the overall stunning performance.
