With Joel Schumacher and Andrew Lloyd Webber in screenplay the cinematic version of Phantom of the Opera perfectly portrays a story that is centered on a certain obscure and disfigured musician of the Opera Popularie in Paris who hides away from his once applauding audience within the darkness of the backstage in the Opera. The character of this maculated musical genius is beautifully portrayed by Gerard Butler, who in the movie falls in love with the new actress, Christine, a Parisian nightingale played by Emmy Rosum.
In this movie, Gerard Butler is seen wearing a mask, as he portrays the character of the musical pastmaster, the Phantom. He shows unparalleled talent, depicting the torment of love and the self inflicted pain in the Phantom who falls for Emmy Rosum, as Christine. With the fabulous opera sets, the flamboyant costumes and spectacular cinematography, the Phantom of the Opera- movie is topped by the celestial melody of some of the best musicals by Lloyd Webber, like “Think Of Me”, “All I Ask Of You” and “Masquerade.”
Perhaps the most striking thing about Phantom of the Opera is the enigmatic character of the Phantom himself, when he uses his talents to impersonate the characters by which he could romance with those played by Christine. He looks for the fulfillment of his love to Christine, realizing that his passions can only begin and end in the stage. The great musical- Phantom of the Opera is about the tragic fate of love and upholds the colors of revenge, pain and hatred all in their purest forms for us to comprehend. The story ends, completing the journey of a soul from the myriads of hell to the meadows of paradise, with despair and hatred bowing before love, when the Phantom lets Christine go away with her beloved.
