The Sound of Music is reputed as one of the all time favorites among the romantic musical movies of Hollywood. This musical movie saw the face of success in the year 1965 with the best ever performance by Julie Andrews who not only acted in this movie but also lent her voice in all the songs which she sang on screen. This movie traces its origin from the Story of the Trapp Family Singers which is the book by Maria Von Trapp. Richard Rodgers gave music to this movie and Oscar Hammerstein II gave the lyrics for the movie. The original story was written by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse.

Maria herself being a restless soul while in the church was the youngest of all the nuns in the church and the song of How do you Solve a Problem Like Maria gives us a clear picture of her childish nature. She starts working as a governess for the Von Trapp kids of Captain Georg Ritter Von Trapp who is a widower and a very strict person by nature.
Singing in the Von Trapp family was totally forbidden since Captain's wife passed away and Maria was the person who brought about the Sound of Music to his family in the true sense of the term. Initially Captain being a strict father was totally against the fact that his kids will learn singing or will sing around in the house.

The movie took a romantic turn when Captain fell in love with Maria and decided to marry her instead of his longtime fiancée the Baroness Elsa Schräder. Maria, on realizing her love for Captain decides to leave the family and go back to the church. Captain Von Trapp being an Austrain Patriot has to maintain a friendly relation with the Nazi regime and in the process he's called to duty of the Third Reich in the Kriegsmarine and following his marriage to Maria he manages to escape from the concert with his family.
