Singin' In The Rain

The musical movie of Hollywood namely Singin' In The Rain is reputed as a comedy movie released in 1952. This movie is known to feature the actors like Gene Kelly, Donald O'Connor and Debbie Reynolds. This musical comedy movie was directed by Stanley Donen and Kelly adding to the choreography of the movie. He literally jumps in front of her car and hence she drops him home as she claims to be a stage actress. Don tends to run into Kathy all over again in a party and realizes that she's only a chorus girl and Kathy is initially pretty furious with him for that. In the process of knowing each other they tend to fall in love with each other.

This movie focuses on the aspect of transformation of silent movies into talkies and it also features the fact that the talkies soon caught up with the popularity of the silent movies. Donald O'Connor posing as Cosmo Brown who is Don's best friend suggests that the female leads voice to be dubbed with that of Kathy's.

The movie also portrays the villainous character of Lina played by Jean Hagen who tries her best to sabotage the relationship between Don and Kathy and demands that Kathy should continue to provide her voice as she has no choice being a contract player.

The premier of the so called talkie in the movie Singin' In The Rain named The Dancing Cavalier was a major success and at the demand of the audience Lina goes for live singing or just for lip sync as Kathy sings for her behind the curtains. The comic part of the movie unlocks when Don, Cosmo and the owner of the studio R.F. Simpson played by Millard Mitchel joyfully remove the curtain and the whole trick behind Lina's soulful voice is revealed. Kathy is finally introduced to the audience as the real star of the movie.



The movie Singin' In The Rain is known to have been conceived originally by Arthur Freed being the MGM producer. Jean Hagen earned herself a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress and the film got a nomination for Best Original Music Score.
