The Hollywood musical movie Cabaret is an Academy Award Winning movie which was released in the year 1972. This movie was directed by Bob Fosse and it stars the actors like Liza Minnelli, Michael York and Joel Grey. This film focuses on Berlin under the Wiemar Republic in the year 1931 before the Nazi period. This movie is loosely based on musical Cabaret in the year 1966 which was again an adapted version of Berlin stories by Christopher Isherwood and the play I Am a Camera. In the play the characters tend to sing in order to express themselves while in the movie the songs are mostly confined to cabaret stage and the beer garden.
This film is known to have won the Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture in 1975 and in the year 2006 this movie ranked 5th on the American Film Institutes's list of best musicals. The story mostly focuses on Sally Bowles (Liza Minnelli) who is an American singer in the nightclub named Kit Kat night club. She comes across Brian Roberts (Michael York) who is a new tenant in Sally's building apartment. Sally tries hard to seduce him but all in vain and she suspects that he's gay. Brian is a person who had previous relationships all of which failed. Sally and Brian became friends he witnesses her bohemian lifestyle during the last days of Wiemar Republic in Germany.

Most of the songs in the movie are focused in the Kit Kat Night Club. Sally and Brian gradually become lovers and Brian realizes that Sally is the right girl for him. In the process Sally befriends Maximilian von Heune who is rich playboy baron. He takes Sally and Brian to country estate belonging to him and the final scene features the three of dancing intimately in a wine-inducted reverie. Sally becomes pregnant and she's not sure if Brian or Max is the child's father.
Brian wishes to marry her and Sally realizes that they could never coexist together and she wants to go for a planned abortion. The film comes to an end as Brian departs for England and Sally continues with her normal life in Berlin.
