An adaptation from the 1996 novel by Helen Fielding of the same name, the story of Bridget Jones's Diary revolves round a single woman in her thirties living in London. A popular romantic comedy film, the screen play has also been written by Helen Fielding himself. Released on 13th April, 2001, the movie was produced by Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Jonathan Cavendish and Fielding herself. Under the capable direction of Sharon Maguire, Bridget Jones's Diary was nominated for the Academy Award and also won many other awards world wide.
One of the best Musical Movies of recent times, the Bridget Jones's Diary staring Renee Zellweger as Bridget Jones herself, Hugh Grant as the unchivalrous Daniel Cleaver and Colin Firth playing the role of Mark Darcy who is supposed to be Bridget's ‘true love’ is a must watch. Though controversies arose regarding Renee Zellweger playing the role of Bridget, because she is an American, she still played the role amazingly well.
The original novel Bridget Jones's Diary is said to be based on the works of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice and also from the BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice in the year 1995. Thus accordingly, Colin Firth, who also played the actual role of Mr. Darcy in the BBC adaptation, has been selected to play the same role in the movie.

Hugh Grant also did a great job, but the best performer was Renee Zellweger, playing Bridget Jones. Besides, the Academy Award for Best Actress nomination, she was also nominated in the BAFTA Awards, Broadcast Film Critics Association Awards, Empire Awards, Golden Globes, USA, Satellite Awards and the famous Screen Actors Guild Awards.
Bridget Jones's Diary also features two hit numbers with Patrick Doyle as the composer of the movie's soundtrack. The songs were released as single hits; one is ‘Out of Reach’ by Gabrielle and the other was ‘It's Raining Men’ by Geri Halliwell. The world famous Sheryl Crow and Robbie Williams also contributed one and two songs to the soundtrack respectively.

| A second part of the novel followed in the year 1999, named the Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason and thus, the second part of the film Bridget Jones's Diary followed in the year 2004. This was also an international success and also loved by the critics everywhere. According to the great film makers and even the critics, Sharon Maguire, the director is said to have managed a rare achievement, i.e., by captivating the novel as an outstanding film.
