What Lies Beneath is a psychological thriller movie, which was released in the year 2000. The film was directed by Robert Zemeckis. The story of the film revolves around a housewife, played by Michelle Pfeiffer. Another main character of the film has been played by Harrison Ford. The music has been scored by Alan Silvestri.
The plot of What Lies Beneath:
The story of What Lies Beneath begins with Claire Spencer. After her daughter leaves home, she enters a new period of her life. She shifts base with her husband, Dr Norman Spencer, who is a renowned scientist. She starts living in a remodeled lakeside home in Vermont. The original home belonged to the father of his husband. There she meets her new neighbor Mary played by Miranda Otto. Claire learns that Mary is terrified of his husband Warren. Then all of a sudden Mary disappears and all clues lead Claire to presume that Mary has been murdered by her husband.
Then strange events follow in Claire’s home and she starts to believe that the ghost of Mary is haunting her. But the events turns out to be more suspicious when Mary returns alive. Claire is then forced to reinvestigate the events and starts probing the past of Norman. He tries to find out the real cause behind these events and wants to solve the matter.
Ultimately it turns out that the ghost is actually the mistress of her husband. The woman was murdered by Norman a year ago and she now wants to communicate to Claire about the secret. When Norman learns that Claire is aware of the murder, he tries to murder her by drowning herself at the bathtub. But fortunately, Claire is able to pull the plug and drain the water from the bathtub. Claire gets up and rushes downstairs to find Norman unconscious. He damages his head on the bathroom sink. Then a struggle ensues between them and they reach a bridge. In the mean time, the ghost of Norman’s mistress appears and drags him down. This let Claire to escape.

The film ends with Claire where she is seen in a cemetery. She places a wreath on the grave of the mistress and not on Norman’s.
