The Shining is a horror film, which was released on May 23, 1980. The film is based on the novel of Stephen King by the same name. The Shining was directed by Stanley Kubrick. He has also written the screen play of the film with novelist Diane Johnson. The soundtrack and the music of the movie was created by Wendy Carlos and Rachel Elkind. The film was edited by Ray Lovejoy.
The plot of The Shining:
Jack Torrance, after losing his job as a grade school teacher, gives interview for job of an overwinter caretaker at a sprawling hotel named Overlook Hotel. The hotel is of the bygone era and is located at an isolated place. The hotel also features a huge hedge maze. The hotel manager named Mr Ullman tactfully mentions to Jack Torrence that the previous caretaker went mad while performing his job. Not only that, he had brutally murdered his whole family, while he himself committed suicide. He also informs that Overlook Hotel is built on an Indian burial ground. On the other hand, Danny, the only child of the couple had seizures and was talking to his imaginary friend, Tony about the hotel. A doctor was called and his mother informs that Danny was accidentally injured by his father when he was quite young.
The whole family prepares and goes to the Overlook Hotel when it is shut down for winter. There Danny sees the two girls but does not mention his parents about them.
The first month passess smoothly. The middle part of the film shows that there is heavy winter storm and Jack is becoming insane. Danny encounters the two girls again and finds that they have been brutally murdered. He is terrified by the sight and then a series of frightful events follows. Wendy now wants to leave the hotel and has an argument with Jack. He leaves her and starts wandering about the Overlook.
Wendy searches for his husband and at the same time Jack follows Danny with an axe to kill him. They enter the massive maze and both are almost lost in it. Danny somehow manages to reach the entrance of the maze and embraces with his mother. Jack fails to find the entrance out of the maze and dies there.

Star cast of The Shining:
The Shining had in the lead role Jack Nicholson as a tormented writer named Jack Torrence. His wife's part was played by Shelley Duvall. The character of their son was played by Danny Lloyd.
