Plot Outline of The Guns of Navarone
Two powerful German guns keep control of the seas past the island of Navarone in Greece, thus making it impossible for the endangered British troops to evacuate a neighboring island. The film starts with a helicopter view of the Greek Islands and a narrator begins to set the scene.
It is 1943, and 2000 British soldiers are trapped on the island of Kheros in the Aegean, situated near Turkey. The Germans are in an attempt to bully Turkey and make it to join the Axis. Since time is running short and the Germans are likely to launch an assault on the British army, they try to draw neutral Turkey on the Axis side.
In the nearby island of Navarone, massive guns are stationed which makes rescue by the Royal Navy close to impossible. As air attack turns out to be useless for suppressing the Allied battleships, the British commando officer Keith Mallory ferries a team of British commandos to the island of Navarone. Mallory takes control of the mission after the commander officer suffers grave injury. In this way their expedition continues and ultimately they succeed in achieving their mission.
