The Amityville Horror

The Amityville Horror is one of the top horror movies of the world. The film was made twice. It was once made in the year 1979. The film was based on a best selling novel, The Amityville Horror – A True Story. The book was written by Jay Anson. This version of The Amityville Horror was directed by Stuart Rosenberg. The film starred Margot Kidder, James Brolin, Don Stroud, Rod Steiger and Murray Hamilton. It has been said that, the story of the film is based on a real life experience of the Lutz family. However, these claims are extremely controversial.

The remake of this film was done in the year 2005. It was released on April 15, 2005. The Amityville Horror film of 2005 was directed by Andrew Douglas. It starred Ryan Reynolds and Melissa George as George Lutz and Katherine Lutz. The other supporting cast of the film was Jesse James, Chloe Moretz, Jimmy Bennett, Rachel Nichols and Philip Baker Hall. The music of the 2005 film was scored by Steve Jablonsky. The plot of The Amityville Horror:
The story of the film revolves around George and Kathy Lutz. The couple, along with their three children, moved into their dream home on Long Island of New York.

This house actually belonged to the De Feo family. About a year ago, Ronald De Feo, Jr murdered his parents and siblings with a gun at this house. According to Ronald, he heard different voices, which urged him to commit the murder.

Very soon, the Lutz family started to hear ghostly voices. They could also see images of the ghosts including the apparition of Jodie De Feo. George was completely affected by it and he became a danger to those who lived with him. A local priest was called to help them out of this situation. But it was of no help and the film ends with a scene where George tries to kill the other members of the family. But he was unsuccessful and everyone managed to flee.


Both the films became huge box office hits. The 1976 film earned more than $86 million in the United States of America. Many critics have given very poor reviews to the film, yet it went on to become such a huge success. The musical score of the film was given by Lalo Schifrin. The Amityville Horror was nominated in the Academy Awards for this category. The 2005 film grossed a total amount of $64.5 million in the United States. The critical response to this version was more or less neutral. According to some, this film is an average remake of the original.
