Sleepy Hollow, a popular horror movie released in 1999, revolves around The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, a story by Washington Irving. The movie was also an interpretation of The Headless Horseman. The theme of the movie and the manner of production was highly inspired by Hammer Film Production. Sleepy Hollow, which was a great success at the box office earned a profit of nearly $206 million.
Plot of Sleepy Hollow
The story goes back to 1799, when a police constable named Ichabod Crane was given the responsibility of investigating a series of murder where the victims were beheaded. The plot involves latest scientific techniques used for investigating murders. When Crane, the constable started investigation, he was informed by many senior citizens that the murderer was not a human but a supernatural being who rises from the grave at night.
Crane turns a deaf ear to them and becomes engrossed in his investigation. In course of the play he encounters the Headless Horseman. Crane, meanwhile was staying with the most affluent family in the city and was attracted towards Katrina, the daughter of the family and a mysterious figure.
Crane was also haunted by the nightmare of the torture that his mother went through.
Crane continued his investigation with an orphan boy, Young Masbeth, whose father was slain by the Horseman. Crane along with his companion was able to discover the Horseman's relation with this world and an unknown world. Crane discovered the Horseman's grave but the skull was missing. Finally he came across a plot which was associated with the history of murder and revenge. Lady Van Tassel, Katrina's Stepmother was in charge of the land. A series of events followed. Finally Crane was able to force Lady Van Tassel to return the horseman's skull who retreats to Hell.

Sleepy Hollow, which was released on 19th November, 1999 in United States earned $30,060,467 over the first weekend. The film made a profit of $206,071,502 all over the world. The film earned worldwide praise from the critics and viewers and was nominated in three categories in Academy Awards.
