The plot of Scream revolves around Sidney Prescott who is trying her best to get over her mother's murder. Casey Baker played by Drew Barrymore and her boyfriend Steve Orth played by Kevin Patrick Walls is murdered by a mysterious attacker who wears Halloween masks making it impossible to identify the killers. The killer is referred as Ghostface in this film. Sidney gets her boyfriend arrested as she thinks that he is responsible for the killing.
Billy Loomis who is Sidney's boyfriend is played by Skeet Ulrich. Later it is seen that he had been arrested for wrong reasons and that the killer is still at loose. Courteney Cox plays the role of Gale Weathers who is after Sidney to give her an interview about the murder of her mother. She too gets involved in the course of events in the film. A party is held where all the innocent people are killed by the attackers. Gale manages to hide a camera at the party spot in order to get exclusive coverage of the incidents which she presumed might follow. Scream has the suspense level stretched all levels. The viewers are unable to find out till the very end who is the killer.

In the end it is seen that Sidney's mother had been murdered by her boyfriend because he wanted his revenge. The cause of Billy's anger was that Sidney's mother had an affair with Billy's father that led to the breaking up of the marriage of his parent's. This makes Billy take revenge on Sidney's mother. He also wanted to kill Sidney and her father. Billy was helped by Stu in his plans.
