The film begins with a party on a beach on Amity Island. Chrissie Watkins is a young woman who goes for a swim and disappears. The next day the mutilated body of the woman is discovered by the police. Even though the medical examiner confirms the shark attack, the mayor refuses to close the beach. The mayor refuses to do so because he is afraid that during the peak tourist season, business will suffer. The news of the attack is suppressed by the medical examiner as well. In Jaws, Roy Scheider plays the role of Martin Brody who is a police officer.
Robert Shaw is the shark hunter, Quint, marine biologist Matt Hooper is played by Richard Dreyfuss and Lorraine Gray plays Ellen who is Brody's wife. Mayor Vaughn is played by Murray Hamilton.
There are several attacks and a group of fisherman catches a tiger shark that makes people think that the problem is solved. On close investigation by Hooper and Brody, it is revealed that the shark is still alive and is busy making a feast of the victims. Quint is hired to capture the shark along with others. The shark is much bigger compared to the boat on which they have gone to capture it. The shark manages to damage the boat thereby risking the lives of those who are on the boat. Much struggle flows and there are hair raising stunts performed in Jaws. The boat on which they go are rendered immobile that adds to the suspense of the film.

| In Jaws, it is Brody who manages to blow up the shark into pieces. They manage to go up shore somehow. Mechanical shark was used all through the film in order to create those magnificent special effects. There were three such shark models that were used to get the various shots of the shark. While shooting the mechanical shark often became dysfunctional as water entered the hydraulic machines and created problems.
