Plot Summary of Gladiator
On the unexpected demise of Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius, his most trusted General Maximus Meridas is held captive unlawfully. He is further fated to the gladiator games by Commodus who is the twisted son of Marcus. Commodus fears that Maximus may use his heroic standing to overthrow him and become the new emperor in his place. However Maximus achieves prominence as a gladiator and utilizes his celebrity status to further damage Commodus’ shaky hold on the vulnerable Roman people. Maximus hopes to inspire the Romans to revive their lost values and triumph over the corruption meted out to them.
