Ghost is one of the Hollywood movies which, although belonging to the genre of horror films, is a bit different. This film involves a romantic drama apart from the supernatural elements in it. Released in 1990, Ghost achieved an immediate success with the huge number of spectators. Apart from being commercially successful, this movie is also one of the most highly praised. The theme of love after death has added a new dimension to this film and this is regarded as the main reason of its huge achievement. There are also some humorous elements which make the creation even more entertaining to the audience.
Plot of Ghost:
The locale of the plot is in the heart of New York City. Major characters are the husband Sam Wheat and his wife Molly Jensen. They are quite happy with their relationship and the only problem is that Sam has difficulties in uttering “I love you”. When Molly says “I love you”, Sam's reply is always “ditto”. The actual story begins when Sam is killed by Willy Lopez, who is actually a hooligan. At first Sam does not realize that he has already died.
After his death, Sam discovers that he has become a ghost who cannot touch anything. He comes to know about the plans of robbery in his own house but feels helpless about how to prevent it.
Then he comes across a medium who is known as Oda Mae Brown. She is the only living person who can listen to Sam's physically unuttered words. Sam forces her to contact Molly and to tell her about the plans about the robbery. But Molly is irritated by the sudden appearance of a medium.
After this Sam meets another ghost in the Subway. He is amazed to see this ghost's power to touch everything. Sam gradually learns the technique and goes back to Molly. He ultimately succeeds in making Molly feel his presence and saves her from every possible danger. When all is done, Sam bids goodbye to his wife and also to Oda. This is where the film comes to an end.
