Horror films made in Hollywood have always been popular and the film titled as Carrie is no exception to this quintessential truth. Carrie was released in the year 1976 and achieved an immediate success. The story of Carrie is based on a superb novel written by the great horror fiction writer Stephen King. As for the screenplay, it was all the creation of Lawrence D. Cohen. Apart from the horror elements, inherent social massage in this film is also one of the main appeals of it.
Plot of Carrie:
Carrie is the name of a teenage girl who continuously undergoes social harassments even without any fault of hers. But Carrie has some supernatural powers which are unknowingly applied by her while being in an irate mood. In one of the very first scenes, Carrie is physically assaulted by her female friends regarding her menstruation. Her agony causes the sudden burst of a bulb in the class room. Then some other similar experiences come in her life in the gym session. Her mother tells her to pray and not to nourish evil imagination.
Then comes the arrangement for the senior prom in the high school. Sue Snell, a good friend of Carrie, sends her boyfriend Tommy Ross to accompany Carrie to the prom. Carrie’s mother does not seem to be happy with this idea as she has doubts about Tommy’s intensions. Chris, Norma and some others on the other hand take steps to make fun out of Carrie. Carrie is drenched by them in the blood of some slaughtered animal. Everyone laughs at her. This time her supernatural powers bring about the ultimate catastrophe. She burns the whole place and tramples everyone killing them.
Carrie even kills her mother in an argument and finally she, too, collapses on her dead mother’s body. The film ends with Sue having a nightmare about her old friend Carrie and she wakes up screaming.

Awards Won by Carrie:
Many of the eminent critics have praised whole heartedly for this movie. Originality of the plot and direction cannot be denied in any case. According to The Movie Guide Carrie is one of the landmarks in the world of horror movies. This film achieved the prestigious Avoriaz Fantastic Film Festival Award. Sissy Spacek got the award in the category of Best Actress by National Society of Film Critics. This film is also regarded as one of the 50 great high school movies in USA.
