Alien is a 1979 science fiction horror film, produced by Gordon Carroll
David Giler and Walter Hill, and directed by Ridley Scott. The movie’s title refers to the central antagonist, which is an extremely aggressive, strange extraterrestrial life-form. Alien successfully launched the career of actress Sigourney Weaver. By featuring a strong heroine, the film proved to be unconventional for the action genre. In conjunction with the films of David Cronenberg from the 1970s, the movie Alien emerged as a central work of the body-horror subgenre. There are sequels to Alien, which include Aliens released in1986, Alien 3 released in 1992 and Alien: Resurrection in 1997.
Star Cast of Alien
The film Alien stars actors Sigourney Weaver, Tom Skerritt, Bolaji Badejo, John Hurt, Veronica Cartwright, Harry Dean Stanton, Ian Holm and Yaphet Kott. Sigourney Weaver plays the character of Ellen Ripley who serves as a Warrant Officer onboard the Nostromo. Ellen Ripley is also the central protagonist of the film. Tom Skerritt plays the role of Dallas who the captain of the Nostromo. John Hurt plays the part of Kane who is Executive Officer of the Nostromo. Kane is the first of the crew who comes across the alien lifeform on LV-426.
Among the other stars in Alien, Veronica Cartwright is seen as Lambert who is the navigator of Nostromo. She proves to be the most emotionally vulnerable crew member and the first to lose her cool during the Alien’s attacks. Ian Holm plays the role of Ash who is the Nostromo’s Science Officer.
Brett is the Nostromo’s Engineering Technician, and this role is played by Harry Dean Stanton. Parker is the Chief Engineer of Nostromo, played by Yaphet Kotto. Finally, Bolaji Badejo plays the role of the Alien, who is the antagonist of the movie. The Alien stalks the crew members of Nostromo and kills them one by one.
Plot Summary of Alien
Following a SOS signal in deep space, a crew member of the space mining ship Nostromo comes upon a young Alien, which attacks and infects him. Unknown to all, this is the beginning of the terror that would affect every member of the crew on Nostromo. The creature soon wreaks havoc and threatens the entire crew.

Alien won a number of awards and accolades in various categories. The 1979 Academy Award for Best Visual Effects was won by Alien. The film also bagged the nomination for Best Art Direction-Set Decoration. The BAFTA, 1979 awards for Sound and Production Design was won by Alien.
