The high fantasy epic The Lord of the Rings is a novel written by philologist and English academic J. R. R. Tolkien. The story was written in several sequels between 1937 and 1949. An extensive portion of the story was written during the Second World War. The Lord of the Rings has been adapted for film, radio and television for multiple times. Almost all its sequels have been screened. The one to be discussed here is The Lord of the Rings: the Fellowship of the Ring a 2001 fantasy film directed by Peter Jackson.
Set in middle earth this particular story of the Lord of the rings tells about the Dark Lord Sauron, seeking the One Ring. Later as the plot progresses it unfolds many mysterious situations. The movie was released on December 19, 2001 and it was highly acclaimed by both critics and the fans. The movie became a huge box office success earning more than $870 million worldwide. It also became the second highest earning film of 2001 in United States and all over world. In the year 2007 The Lord of the Rings: the Fellowship of the Ring was voted number 50 on the American Film Institute's list of 100 famous American films.
The filming for The Lord of the Rings: the Fellowship of the Ring began on October 11, 1999. Before actually filming the movie all its characters were trained for six weeks in sword fighting, boating and riding. The important casts in the movie include the following:

The story slightly differs from what it was actually penned. Jackson, Walsh and Boyens had to make several changes to the story for proper pacing and character development. The Lord of the Rings: the Fellowship of the Ring also grabbed several awards. In the year 2002 the movie won four Academy Awards out of thirteen nominations.
Different other categories where the movie was specially marked include Best Cinematography, Best Effects (Visual Effects), Best Makeup, and Best Music. In the year 2002 the movie won Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation.
