Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone is the very first movie of the Harry Potter series. The movie is an intelligent adaptation of the fiction written by JK Rowling. Although children were initially the target audience for Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, the movie managed to mesmerize one and all.
The entire series of Harry Potter deals with the life of a young wizard and his school of witchcraft. Interesting characters and evil forces come together in the book to present a dream world of various possibilities. Magicians here ride on brooms as if they are bikes! Spells are cast and evil designs of Voldemort and his associates are continuously at play.
The screenplay of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone
The movie begins on the eleventh birthday of Harry. Harry is portrayed as an orphan who has been living with his unkind relatives the Durseleys. As the story unfolds itself, we the muggles, are also introduced to Rubeus Hagrid, the gamekeeper at Hogwarts, Professor McGonagall and Professor Dumbledor. The greatest challenge for the director of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone was to recreate the fantasy world as described in Rowling's book.
The movie version of the book released across the world with the name "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone". In the movie, Daniel Radcliff plays the role of the leading protagonist Harry. Emma Watson and Rupert Grint are also an integral part of the entire Harry Potter series. For, they play the roles of Harry's best friends in Hogwarts.
The entire screenplay of the movie has been written by Steve Kloves. Most of the shots of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone were taken at Leavesden Film Studios.
Special effects in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone
Production Designer Stuart Craig combined Georgian, Tudor and Queen Anne architecture to recreate the Hogwarts school building. Designed on the basis of an Old English Castle, the walls of the Hogwarts and the forests close by were created with a patient and creative use of lights and animation. The stadium for the Quidditch game and the uniforms of the players have been designed by Judianna Makovsky.

| There are as many as six hundred special shots in the movie. Industrial Light and Magic created Lord Voldemort's eerie appearance and Sony Pictures Imagework have looked after the Quidditch game scenes in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.
