The Academy Award-winning movie, Little Miss Sunshine, is a dramatic comedy film based on the story of a family’s road trip to a beauty pageant for children. Little Miss Sunshine is a Hollywood movie that happened to be the directional debut of the husband-wife duo of Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris. Produced by Big Beach Films on a total budget of US$8 million, Little Miss Sunshine was written and had screenplay done by Michael Arndt and was distributed by Fox Searchlight Pictures.
The release date of this comedy movie took place on August 18, 2006, with a total running time of 103 minutes. The entire filming was completed within over 30 days in Southern California and Arizona during the summer of 2005. A major portion of Little Miss Sunshine spans around the family vehicle, a Volkswagen T2 Microbus. Most of these troubles associated with the vehicle were based on the writer’s (Ardnt) past experience during a family trip. The film was premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on 20 January, 2006.

This titillating Hollywood comedy movie starred Greg Kinnear, Abigail Breslin, Paul Dano, Toni Collette, Steve Carell, and Alan Arkin. Many of the roles enacted by the actors were chosen by the directors, and even if the role of Frank Ginsberg was previously supposed to be played by Bill Murray or Robin Williams, the role finally went to Carell. The children beauty pageant made use of actual contestants from prior pageants, and even the director duo arranged for their own pageant in order to learn more about this particular process before filming on it.
Plot Outline of Little Miss Sunshine
The film spans around a family determined to get their young daughter into the final rounds of a children’s beauty pageant. For this, they take a cross-country trip in their family vehicle, a Volkswagen T2 Microbus. Olive is a seven-year old little girl in a family with the dream of winning the title of beauty queen in the Little Miss Sunshine contest.
Her family wants to make her dream come true. But the entire family is the very definition of the term “dysfunctional”. But somehow the whole Hoover family travels together in their Volkswagen and the journey proves to be of great fun.

Awards won by Little Miss Sunshine
This movie won 2 Oscars in 2007 for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role to Alan Arkin; and Best Writing, Original Screenplay to Michael Arndt. It has been nominated for two more categories in the Oscars, and in other award ceremonies.
