But Aaron faces a charismatic rival, Tom Grunnick (played by William Hurt), who is a far less seasoned rival. Jack Nicholson appears in a cameo role in this Hollywood comedy film.

The leading female role was originally written for Debra Winger, but because of her pregnancy, she was replaced by Holly Hunter at the very last minute.

Plot Outline of Broadcast News
It’s a story of two rival television reporters: one talented, the other handsome, and both are male. And there is a female producer. Star network news producer Jane Craig gets attracted towards a new reporter Tom Grunnick, a handsome guy representing the trend towards entertainment news, the aspect that she despises the most. On the other hand, Aaron Altman, a talented and gifted writer, carries an unanswered torch for young Jane Craig. Both these men are attracted towards Jane and the love triangle forms, thus making the base for the film’s storyline.



The film include bits of business affairs that are shown for letting people know about egos in television journalism, whereas, on the other hand, many of the detailed observations of television public affairs are perfectly accurate in reality.
