Screwball comedy, a subgenre of comedy movies, was primarily started off with the movie It Happened One Night and was seen in some of the following films. Among the long list of screwball comedy movies The Lady Eve made its presence felt immensely. Preston Sturges was the director of The Lady Eve. Along with Preston Sturges, Monckton Hoffe wrote the story of The Lay Eve.
Plot of The Lady Eve
The entire plot of The Lady Eve revolves around Jean Harrington and Charles Pike. With her charm and flawless plans Jean tries to win over the heart of Charles, who has just returned back from an expedition. However, due to some loopholes the plans of Jean go haywire and she falls in hooking this rich and naïve person.
She is being dumped by Charles after knowing the actual story, beneath her emotions. With great determination Jean returns back in the life of Charles as the posh ‘Lady Eve Sidwich’.
However, this time she returns back with the intention of taking revenge. Soon Charles’s father likes her and chooses her as his would-be daughter-in-law. After numerous twists and turns, everything in the end concludes in love.
This 97 minute movie was praised immensely for the audiences for portraying a fresh story in a presentable manner. The twists in the movie made the audiences applaud the movie.
Remake of The Lady Eve
The Birds and the Bees, released in the year 1956, was the remake of The Lady Eve. Principal characters in this film were George Gobel, Mitzi Gaynor and David Niven.

The two prime stars cast in The Lady Eve were Barbara Stanwyck as Jean Harrington and Henry Fonda as Charles Pike. Other actors who followed them were Charles Coburn as ‘Colonel’ Harrington, William Demarest and Eugene Pallette. Each of the character acted their part excellently, enhancing the positive points of The Lady Eve. Victor Milner did the cinematography for this film; whereas, Paul Jones was the producer of The Lady Eve.

It did not win any awards; however, it was nominated for Academy Award. The category for which it The Lady Eve was nominated was Best Writing and Original Story. National Film Registry chose this film in 1994 as one of the most ‘culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant’ films.
