The film is all about a boy, Josh Baskin who wishes upon a fortune telling machine to turn him to an adult. He does so after he has been humiliated in a carnival where he tried to impress a teenager girl, elder to him. Josh expresses his wish to become a big man to Zoltar Speaks, the fortune telling machine. To his utter surprise he finds himself as a matured man of 30 years old in the next morning.
Josh tries to enjoy his adulthood. He appears before his mother in his new look but she runs in fear; she is unable to recognize her own son and considers him to be an intruder. She tries to attack the intruder ‘son’ with knife in self-defence and finally succeeds in chasing Josh away from the house.
The plot then presents Josh's meetings with his friend Billy Kopecki. To prove his identity to the 13 years old Billy, Josh sings a song that is only known to the two best friends. Billy helps him in getting a room to stay. Josh acquires a job in a toy company. He achieves success in his career as his job is related to sell toys among kids because he himself is a child in the body of a mature man. He knows what suits the psychology of a child. His excellent performance makes way for promotion.
Romance flowers in the life of Josh with the appearance of Susan Lawrence. The story also presents an emotional conflict in Josh. He has to choose any one life, his matured life full of romance and success or his child life with his parents and old friends. Finally, the story ends turning Josh again into a 13 years old boy.
