Aladdin

Aladdin is an animated movie for children featured in 1992. Walt Disney Feature Animation produced the movie. The movie was released on November 25, 1992. This 31st animated series by the Walt Disney pictures was made correlating a version of the story of Aladdin and his magic lamp. The concept was taken from The Book of One Thousand and One Nights. For bringing the actual story in the movie format many aspects of the traditional story was changed for the movie.

Soon after it’s releasing Aladdin became the most successful movies of 1992 earning more than $217 million in domestic revenues and over $504 million worldwide. John Musker and Ron Clements directed the movie. Alan Menken, the famous musician who won the 1992 Academy Award for Original Music Score for his work, gave the music.

Two video sequels also followed the animated children movie Aladdin. One was in 1994 The Return of Jafar and the other Aladdin and the King of Thieves in1996. The story of Aladdin begins on a dark night presenting Jafar, the grand vizier to the Sultan of Agrabah, attempting to enter into the Cave of Wonders. He tries to enter into the cave in an attempt of getting the hidden magical lamp containing a genie. As the story progresses it unfolds many interesting events in the movie like the one how Alddin meets princess Jasmine in the palace of Agrabah.

The casting of characters also has a major contribution behind the success of the animated feature film Alddin.
Some of its much acclaimed characters include Aladdin/Prince Ali Ababwa, The Genie, Jafar, Princess Jasmine, Abu, Carpet a sentient magic carpet, The Sultan, Razoul, Rajah and the Peddler.

The movie was also appreciated for having an enthralling music composed by Alan Menken and songwriters Howard Ashman and Tim Rice. The following six songs were featured in the movie:

  • Friend Like Me
  • Prince Ali
  • A Whole New World
  • Prince Ali (Reprise)


Aladdin also grabbed several awards. It won two Academy Awards, Best Music and Original Score for Alan Menken's album and Best Music, Original Song for "A Whole New World". The movie was also nominated in the categories of Special Effects, Sound Effects Editing, Best Sound, and one more Best Song nomination for "Friend Like Me". Several other awards that went in favor of Aladdin include Golden Globes, special achievement award for Robin Williams. The Annie Award was given to Aladdin for Best Animated Feature, the MTV Movie Award for Best Comic role played by Robin Williams.
