X Men: The Last Stand is the third sequel of the X Men series. It followed X Men and X2. The film was directed by Brett Ratner. He was given the responsibility to direct the film after the original director named Bryan Singer dropped out to direct Superman Returns. The film is based on Marvel Comics' X-Men superhero. The story of the film revolves around a "mutant cure". It causes dangerous repercussions among human beings and mutants. The film also shows the mysterious resurgence of Jean Grey. This character died in the film, X2. X Men: The Last Stand was released on May 26, 2006 in two countries such as The United States of America and Canada. In other countries, it was released one or two days earlier.
The plot of X Men: The Last Stand
The film opens with a scene where Worthington Labs announces the development of a vaccine, which will suppress the X-genes. These special genes offer extra power to the mutants. The company also announces that it will provide the cure to any mutant who is interested in it. But X-Men's opponent warns his followers by saying that it will be forcefully administered in the body of the mutant to eliminate the race.
Cyclops in the mean time returns to Alkali Lake. He was heartbroken after losing Jean. Jean reappears and they kiss each other. But she changes and appears to kill Cyclops. Professor Charles Xavier orders Wolverine to investigate and also explains that Jean has no control over her actions. When she wakes up and was questioned about Cyclops, she could not explain anything and flees to her childhood house. Magneto is also aware that Jean's powers are lost and meets Xavier at her home. They both vie for her loyalty and at that time Phoenix resurfaces. She becomes furious because she was caged in Jena's body for about 20 years. She destroys the house, kills Xavier and leaves with Magneto.

| The X-men regroup after losing Xavier, Rogue and Cyclops. They confront the army of Magneto. Jean regains consciousness and immediately the Phoenix emerges and starts destroying the soldiers. She was ultimately and reluctantly killed by Wolverine. The film ends showing that life goes on even though the X-men were lost.
X Men: The Last Stand did not manage to get good reviews but was well received at the box-office. The film drew around $45.5 million on the opening day itself.
