It is also the 6th movie to star Roger Moore as MI6 super agent James Bond. The title of the film is taken from short story "Octopussy" which was written by Ian Fleming in the year 1966. The over all story of the movie is original and the ostensible short story is narrated as a flashback by the, Bond girl, Octopussy. In the movie, Bond is assigned a job, to follow a general theft which revolves around jewels and relics of the Russian government. As the story progresses, Bond comes in contact with a wealthy Afghan prince, Kamal Khan, and his link, Octopussy. Following detention and attempts on his life, Bond discovers a scheme to compel disarmament in Europe with nuclear weapon usage.
The film has been produced by Albert R. Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson. The film got released in the same year as the non-EON James Bond film 'Never Say Never Again'.
The film was directed by John Glen and written by George MacDonald Fraser, Richard Maibaum, and Michael G. Wilson. The pre-title series of Octopussy involves the mission of Bond to destroy the technology which has fallen into the wrong hands. He is also featured as flying a nimble homebuilt Bede BD-5J aircraft.
Bond tries to escape with the help of this aircraft but is pursued by a SAM IR missile. He tries to escape as fast as possible by returning to the airbase and flying through the hangar. The missile follows him and explodes on the doors of the hangar and destroys the entire structure. The action does not end here and progresses with characters unfolding scene by scene.

It is interesting to note that the title 'Octopussy' comes from the compilation of short stories, 'Octopussy and The Living Daylights'. However there is hardly any use of the plot concerning the short story 'Octopussy'. Even though the scene at Sotheby's is inspired from the Ian Fleming short story "The Property Of A Lady", only some portions of the actual plot actually can be traced to the original short story "Octopussy". Due to non-EON Bond film, 'Never Say Never Again', which got released in 1983, Octopussy witnessed Roger Moore returning for the character.
