The Eye of the Jackal

Action/Sci Fi movies made in Hollywood have always pulled in niche audiences worldwide. The action-packed sequences of this genre of films make the adrenaline rush to no limit! The Eye of the Jackal is one of the most well made political thrillers in the history of Hollywood films. Based on the best seller by Frederick Forsyth The Day of the Jackal, The Eye of the Jackal deals with an extremely sensitive political issue concerning the assassination attempt on the French president Charles de Gaulle in 1963. Eminent director Fred Zinnemann directed this adapted screenplay of The Day of the Jackal.

Casting is one crucial aspect in which the film scores over other films having some kind of thematic similarity to The Eye of the Jackal. The role of the assassin is portrayed by Edward Fox. Adrien Cayla-Legrand impersonates President De Gaulle. The casting includes Michael Lonsdale as Lebel, Michel Auclair as Colonel Rolland, Maurice Denham as General Colbert, Denis Carey as Casson, Jacques Francois as Pascal, Alan Badel as the Minister, Vernon Dobtcheff as the Interrogator, Derek Jacobi as Caron and Tony Briton as inspector Thomas.

The Eye of the Jackal has received critical acclamation for outstanding cinematography. The long range camera angles have been used extensively to render a documentary feel to the movie.

Plot Outline
The Jackal is a professional sharp-shooter known for his impeccable sniping abilities. He is hired by a group of disillusioned soldiers who, despite making numerous attempts to kill De Gaulle, have failed miserably.

The French president has been provided tight security. The Jackal claims half a million dollars for this operation. The Eye of the Jackal showcases how this hired killer goes about his task and zooms in on the President. The French intelligence also keeps the Jackal under surveillance and closely monitors his each move. The cat and mouse game is on between the French security authority and the Jackal. The French ministry appoints Claude Lebel, one of the best detectives in the country, to outsmart the notorious killer and save the life of De Gaulle. The film gathers momentum as well as suspense once Claude Lebel makes his entry. As Lebel contrives different plans to trace the identity of the Jackal, he keeps on assuming fake identities by using fake passports.

The intuition of Lebel gets the better of the Jackal in the end, and the president evades death by a whisker. The killer is sprayed with bullets by Lebel.
