Die Hard 1, the first movie of the Die Hard Series, was one of the popular American action movies that was released on 15th July, in the year 1988, in USA. The director of this movie is John Mc Tieman and its screenplay was done by Steven E de Souza and Jeb Stuart. Bruce Wills, a popular Hollywood actor, played the leading role in this movie. Along with receiving huge commercial and critical success, it also created a niche for actor Brice Wills and it also established Rickman as a popular actor. This movie is based on the novel 'Nothing Lasts Forever', written by Roderick Thorp. This novel itself is a sequel of 'The Detective', and a movie based on this novel got released in the year 1968.
Plot of Die Hard 1:
John McClane ( Bruce Willis), a cop returns back home to Los Angeles, from New York City, to spend the Christmas with his kids and wife Holly, as Holly lives in Los Angeles for her job. Holly works in the Nakatomi Plaza, which is a 40 storey building. On his arrival, he meets Joe Takagi, Holly's boss and co-worker, Harry Ellis. McClane and Holly get engaged in an argument in a private bathroom and as soon as Holly goes out to deliver a speech, 13 armed terrorists and takes hostage the occupants of the 30th floor. Hans Guber is the leader of this terrorist group. Luckily, John is spared as he is in the bathroom, and he witnesses the murder of Takagi.
Though he pulls the fire alarm in 32nd floor, it's of no use as the terrorists destroy the fire alarm. Gruber sends a terrorist after John, in order to kill him. But, John manages to kill the terrorist and steals the machine gun. Now he is left with the task to kill the terrorists and save the people before the terrorists manage to get things done their way. In order to know what happens next, you will have to watch this popular movie.
Awards received by Die Hard 1, include BMI Film and TV Awards, Awards of the Japanese Academy, Blue Ribbon Award, Hochi Film Award, in different categories. It was also nominated for Edgar Allan Poe Awards, DVD Exclusive Awards.
