Roger Allers

Roger Allers is one of the famous animation directors. He was born in New York's Rye. Though born in Rye, he was brought up at Scottsdale in Arizona. When he was only five years old, he was inspired by animation films. Disney’s feature film named “Peter Pan” released in the year 1953 inspired him the most. He decided to be a Disney artist and work in collaboration with Walt Disney. With this desire Roger Allers went for a Disney animation. But, the sudden death of Walt Disney in the year 1966 crushed his dream of working with him.

Roger Allers was also interested in fine Arts, and this interest compelled him to pursue a degree in Fine arts. He went to the Arizona State University to pursue this degree. But after he audited a class at Harvard, he discovered a renewed interest in animation within himself. He attended a job with Lisberger Studios. There he handled several animation projects. Some of the animation projects handled when he was an employee of the Lisberger Studios include The Electric Company, Sesame Street, and Make a Wish. He also tacked a considerable number of commercials. In the year 1978, Allers went to Los Angeles to work on a project called Animalympics.
In the year 1980 that Allers shifted to Toronto. In Toronto, he served as an animator in the famous Nelvana Studios. In this film, he worked for the feature known as “Rock&Rule”. After spending two years here, he went back to Los Angeles. During this time Roger Allers came to know that Disney was searching for a storyboard man on Oliver&Company. Learning about this, Roger Allers submitted his application and was selected for the job.

He worked on all the animated films produced by Disney during this period. He worked in the Disney films including “The Prince and the Pauper”, “Aladdin”, “The Little Mermaid” and “Beauty and the Beast”.


His movie directing debut of Roger Allers started with the film called “The Lion King”. This animated film released in the year 1994. This film won several awards. Other than this, Roger Allers directed the animated film like “Open Season” released in the year 2006. The voices of Martin Lawrence were featured in this particular film.
