Robin Williams has definitely left an individual mark for comic roles. As one of the masters in the acting business, he has also shown his expertise in serious roles. Apart from the movie roles he has a few smart TV roles and remarkable stage performances in his kitty. Robin McLaurim Williams was born on 21st July, 1951, in Chicago, Illinoise. His first appearance in a major role of a movie happened in Popeye. If Williams’s self assessments are to be believed, he used to be a very quiet child. Despite being a very shy guy he decided to get into the profession of acting.

Though he brushed his acting exponent a great deal from his stage experiences, Robin got maximum acclaim for his roles in the Hollywood movies. In the year 1987, Good Morning, Vietnam got a nomination for Academy Award. Moreover, this role also provided Robin Williams with the true identity of one of the finest actors in Hollywood. He is a master of playing the roles in which the essence of comedy has been dipped in a little bit of pathos. Mrs. Doubtfire and The Birdcage are some of the movies where his comic role is tinged with pathos.
In the animated movie Aladdin, he rendered voice for the character Genie. For the first time the power of stars in voice over casts was also established. Besides, a completely different aspect of his character was featured after this. Afterwards his voice started being used in several other movies, among which the 2006 Academy Award winner Happy Feet is also included. His role in the very dramatic movies like, The Fisher King and Dead Poets Society won him a couple of nominations to the Academy Awards. In The Fisher King he was a homeless man and in Dead Poets Society he played the role of an unorthodox English teacher.

In the movie Hook, Robin Williams was an adult Peter Pan. In the year 1997, Robin Williams’s


acting in the role of a psychologist in Good Will Hunting, earned the Oscar for best supporting actor. In the 2000s his admirers started feeling that he had started being type-casted in the movies like, Bicentennial Man, Patch Adams, etc. In the movies like, One Hour Photo, Death To Smoochy, The Final Cut and Insomnia, he tried to come out of the popular frame of his and ventured something new. His serious roles in these movies also achieved critical acclaim.
