Richard Gere

Richard Gere, one of the most recognized and popular Hollywood male actors of today, was born as Richard Tiffany Gere. He was born on August 31, 1949 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This American actor is the winner of the Golden Globe Award and the Screen Actors Guild Award. Hollywood actor Richard Gere became a heartthrob for his handsome appearance and romantic roles during the 1980s and since then he played the role of the leading actor in all his films. In 1990s and 2000s, he played some prominent roles in the films like Pretty Woman, Chicago and Primal Fear. The role in Chicago won him the Golden Globe Best Actor- Comedy or Musical award.

Gere has a brother and three sisters. The actor completed his schooling in the year 1967 from North Syracuse Central High School. He was an excellent gymnast and excelled in trumpet playing. Through his gymnastics scholarship he studied in the University of Massachusetts Amherst with his major subject as Philosophy. But, he dropped out after two years. Richard Gere started his acting career in the Provincetown Playhouse and starred in films like Guildenstern Are Dead and Rosencrantz.
Richard Gere got his major role to play in Grease the London stage version in the year 1973. In the 1970s, he did a number of Hollywood movies, like Looking for Mr. Goodbar and Days of Heaven. He became famous with his role in the movie American Gigolo, and An Officer and a Gentleman. The rest was history as he became the first man to feature on the Vogue magazine cover. In the 1980s, his career saw both successes and failures.

His leading roles in the hits like Internal Affairs and Pretty Woman were well received and since then he has been showered the role of the protagonist in several movies. His other memorable hits are Sommersby, Primal Fear, and Runaway Bride.


In Mr. Jones, his role of a person suffering from bipolar disorder was appreciated by the mental health community and is often used as a training tool for the students with bipolar disorder. In 1999 Richard Gere was awarded the "Sexiest Man Alive".

In 2002, he starred in the major films like The Mothman Prophecies, Unfaithful, and Chicago. He did a memorable performance in the film Shall We Dance. In the year 2006 Gere was also the "Man of the Year" in Hasty Pudding Theatricals' of Harvard University". As a part of USAID he visited Mumbai for the project "Operation Lighthouse".
