Richard Attenborough

Richard Samuel Attenborough, better known as Richard Attenborough, has been one of the most popular Hollywood male actors of his time. This Baron Attenborough was born on 29th August in the year 1923. This English actor’s skills are not only limited to acting, but he has also received equal acclaim for his remarkable works as a director, producer, and an entrepreneur as well. Richard Attenborough has also been the winner of several prestigious awards. He is a two time Academy Award winner. He has been honored with the BAFTA award as well and is also the winner of three Golden Globe awards.

Hollywood actor Richard Attenborough also happens to be the elder sibling of Sir David Attenborough, the well known naturalist filmmaker. The actor was born to Mary and Frederick Levi Attenborough. His did his schooling from Wyggeston Grammar School for Boys which is located in Leicester and then he joined the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA). His acting career shot off from the year 1942. His first film was In Which We Serve.
Some of his first few films were London Belongs to Me which was released in 1948 and Morning Departure that released in 1950. However, his film career skyrocketed only after the 1947 release Brighton Rock, where he acted as a psychopathic gangster. The actor was also a part of the Royal Air Force during the World War II. In the 1950’s the actor was spotted in prominent roles in successful comedies like Private's Progress, released in 1956 and I'm All Right Jack, released in 1959.

In the early years of his career, Richard Attenborough was one of the star casts in Agatha Christie's The Mousetrap which was a London West End production, which became one of the longest running productions on stage.


The production was opened in 1952 and is still running. In the 1960s, the actor began experimenting with several roles and starred in successful movies like Seance on a Wet Afternoon and Guns at Batasi which won him the BAFTA Best Actor Award. He played a memorable role in the film The Great Escape.

He won consecutive Golden Globe Awards in the years 1967 and 1968. The films like Sand Pebbles and Doctor Dolittle won him two awards in the Best Supporting Actor category. In 1983 he won a Golden Globe Best Director Award for the movie Gandhi. He played the role of John Hammond in multi award winning film Jurassic Park in the year 1993.
