Susan Abigail Tomalin, better known as Susan Sarandon was the eldest child of her parents. Born in New York City, her parents were Phillip Leslie Tomalin and Lenora Marie. The journey of Susan Sarandon along with ten of her relatives, to track her Welsh ancestry was famously documented by the programme “Coming Home: Susan Sarandon”, telecasted by BBC Wales. She belonged to a Roman Catholic family, and graduated in the year 1964 from Edison High School. From the year 1964 to 1968, she studied at The Catholic University of America. She did her BA in drama, and worked with the famous Gilbert Hartke.
Career of Susan Sarandon
She bagged her first role in the film Joe that was released in the year 1970. In the year 1975, she performed in the noted The Rocky Horror Picture Show. In the same year, she also appeared in The Great Waldo Pepper, opposite the famous Robert Redford. Her role in the film The Hunger (1983) gave birth to controversies and did not do well at the box-office. The major controversy was associated with the portrayal of lesbian love between Susan Sarandon and Catherine Deneuve, her co-star. It was in the year 1988 that she became a “household name”, by giving a great performance in the film Bull Durham. The film was a great hit.
