Katherine Hepburn has been one of the most iconic American female actors who have ever graced the arena of television, film and theater. This legend of the screen has captivated her audience for decades. Born on 12th May, 1907, Katherine Hepburn possesses the record for winning the Best Actress Oscar four times, out of her twelve nominations. In the year 1976, she received an Emmy Award for her stellar role in Love Among the Ruins. She also received nominations for four more Emmy Awards and two Tony Awards. Her acting career lasted for a phenomenal seventy years. The crowning glory of all her achievements was her being honored as “the top female star of all time” by the American Film Institute, in the year 1999. Even her extramarital affair with Spencer Tracy was widely talked about in the film industry and the media circuit.

Early Life of Katherine Hepburn
This famous personality was born in Connecticut's Hartford. Her parents were Dr. Thomas Norval Hepburn and Katharine Martha Houghton. The death of her brother Tom had such an impact on her that she used his birthday, 8th November, as her own. Only when she published her autobiography, Me: Stories of my Life, the world came to know about her real date of birth. Before moving to Bryn Mawr College, she received education from Kingswood-Oxford School. She graduated in philosophy and history in 1928. In the same year, she debuted on Broadway's Night Hostess. In 1928, she also got married to Ludlow Ogden Smith, a businessman and a socialite. In 1934, the couple separated. Despite being separated, the two remained friends throughout their lives.

She somehow escaped the New England Hurricane hit Connecticut in the year 1938, though her home was entirely washed away.

Career of Katherine Hepburn

Katherine Hepburn was successful in blending theater and film, and her work in both the fields was thoroughly liked and appreciated. In 1933, she won her first Academy Award for Morning Glory. She further rose to fame by her role as Jo in Little Women's screen adaptation. By the year 1938, she became one of the ruling actresses in Hollywood. She acted in comedy films like Stage Door and Bringing Up Baby. The culmination of her acting career was the film The African Queen and her performance as a missionary spinster is truly memorable. She was nominated for the 5th time as Best Actress at the Oscars. Her won her second Academy award for her role in Guess Who's Coming to Dinner.

She passed away on 29th June, 2003, and the screen world lost a very special gem.
