Kate Beckinsale or Kathrin Romany Beckinsale was born on 26th July, 1973. Kate Beckinsale is an English actress. She has reached stardom by performing remarkably in films like Pearl Harbor (2001), Underworld (2003) and Van Helsing (2003). She is considered to be one of the leading actresses in Hollywood today. She has delighted and entertained her audience by delivering remarkable and memorable performances in whichever film she has acted in.
Kate Beckinsale was born in the city of London, and her parents are actors Richard Beckinsale and Judy Loe. Her father was a victim of heart attack and died a premature death in 1979. Her paternal great grandfather was from Burma, and she herself has stated that as a child she was “very oriental looking”. Kate Beckinsale was a very talented child. While studying at Godolphin and Latymer School in London, she won the W. H. Smith Young Writers' competition on two occasions – first for three short stories and later for three poems.

In her adolescence, she was quite rebellious in nature. She became the victim of anorexia and also inculcated a habit of smoking. However, she overcame all these and started to follow her parents' footsteps trying to make a mark in the arena of acting. Her very first role was in a television film on the Second World War, One Against the Wind. It was aired in the year 1991. She is quite proficient in French and Russian, though she could not complete her degree. According to her, this increased her potentiality as an actress, and sharpened her acting skills.

In the year 1996, she starred in Emma's TV film adaptation. Besides doing small budget films, she also appeared in stage roles and television films. Some of her initial efforts include Shooting Fish, Cold Comfort Farm and The Last Days of Disco.
Though her first major Hollywood film, Brokedown Palace (1999), was not successful commercially, she was appreciated. She tasted success through films like Pearl Harbor, Underworld and Van Helsing. Her appearance as Ava Gardner in The Aviator was a remarkable chapter in her career. In FHM's “100 Sexiest Women in the World”, she ranked twenty third.
