Charlize Theron – the Popular Hollywood Actress
Charlize Theron is a South African actress who came to become one of the most popular Hollywood female actors of current times. Born on August 7, 1975 in Benoni, Gauteng, South Africa, Charlize Theron earned her reputation as a fashion model and later went on to the American film industry to become one of the popular Hollywood actresses. An American citizen, Charlize Theron came to the fame with her performance in the film Monster as Aileen Wuornos, which earned her an Academy Award.
The Early Days
Charlize Theron, born in South Africa, is the only daughter of Charles Theron, the owner of a construction company, and Gerda, who took over her husband's business after his death. She was brought up in Johannesburg in her early days. Charlize Theron started her education at the National School of Arts in Johannesburg. She was sent to boarding school when she was thirteen years old. At the age of fifteen, she had to witness her father's death, as her mother shot down her alcoholic father in self-defense when he attacked her.
The Career
From the early days, Charlize Theron was eying for career in modeling and acting. She used to participate in various beauty contests. Wining one of such contests provided her the opportunity to fly down to Milan in Italy on a one-year modeling contract when she was sixteen. Later on, she moved on to New York with the Pauline's Model Management. After the completion of her assignment, she stayed back there to join the Joffrey Ballet School where she took training in ballet dancing. Though a back injury barred her to ahead further in that.

Her first film was Children of the Corn III, where she got a non-speaking role. She came to the recognition with the blockbusters like The Devil's Advocate (1997), Mighty Joe Young (1998) and The Cider House Rules.
Later on, Charlize Theron gave one of her best performances in the film Monster, where he portrayed the role of a serial killer Aileen Wuornos. This film gave her many awards including the Best Actress Oscar at the 76th Academy Awards in 2004, SAG Award and the Golden Globe Award. Eventually, she is also the first South Africa born actress to win Academy Award.
