In 1977 the 3rd People’s Choice Awards drew about 35.3 million spectators and at this award function John Wayne and Barbra Streisand were declared winners once again. ‘One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest’ won the award for the Favorite Picture of the year. The first and sole presenter of The People’s Choice Awards purchased it in 1982 from Bob Stivers.

The categories for The People’s Choice Awards have been changed since its inauguration. The 16th People’s Choice Awards included categories for Favorite All-Around Movie, World Favorite Movie Actor and Favorite Movie Actor.
Rob Reiner was chosen as the People’s Choice Awards Honoree at the 23rd People’s Choice Awards. The 32nd People’s Choice Awards comprised categories like Favorite Leading Lady, Favorite On-Screen Match Up and Favorite Tour.

The People’s Choice Awards were distributed during the 20th century on the basis of the Gallup polls results. The Gallup Organization surveyed each year various categories for the favorite television program, favorite movie, favorite actor and favorite actress. The poll-based awards provided the common people with endless scope and the result of annual survey was declared at The People’s Choice Awards ceremony. But due to the margins of error the awards started to be declared through online voting.
