Lukas Moodyson was born on January 17th 1969. His versatility as a director in grasping compassionate as well as morbid subjects, have earned him the reputation of one of the prominent directors in Hollywood. He is considered to be one of the top directors in Sweden.
Lukas Moodyson's father worked his way to become an engineer. His movies are inspired by incidents that occurred during his childhood. At the age of 17, a collection of his poetries were published. He then went on to write anthologies and had even penned a novel by the time he was 23 years of age. It was at that juncture of his life that he lost interest in almost everything. He developed a frustration for life. He was not sure of his future and his interest. Luckily, he enrolled in a film school, it was there that he developed liking for films and direction. The Swedish Film School in Stockholm was his first brush with films, something which he went on to love.
The first film that Lukas Moodyson made was “Show me Love”, which was warmly accepted by the audience. This was scripted at a time when he was evolving as a person. He viewed himself as the center and his viewpoint broadened. Thus, a movie which had two teenage girls and their dreams was directed by Lukas. The idea was taken from his childhood days but it was not autobiographical.

‘Tillsammans’, which Lukas Moodyson directed in 2000, bears some memories from his childhood days. He had watched the Tillsammans movement, while growing up. The contrasting emotions that he explored and displayed prominently portray him as a versatile director. ‘Show Me Love’ was a tender movie that highlighted the emotions of younger generations whereas in ‘Lilya 4- Ever’ he has broached on darker subjects.
Lukas Moodyson has acted as a screenplay director, writer and a cinematographer in many of his films. Today, he is not only one of the veterans among directors but many of his works has been received well in the international market.
