Gus Van Sant is one of the great movie directors of Hollywood. He was born on 24th July in the year 1952. Louisville situated in Kentucky is the birthplace of this famous film director. As a film director, Gus van Sant was nominated for the prestigious American Academy Award. Not only as a film director but also as a photographer, Gus van Sant exhibited his expertise. He is also excellent as a musician and a writer.
In the initial years of his professional life, Gus van Sant devoted his time in directing TV commercials.
Van Sant also directed an adaptation of a novel of Tom Robbins called “Even Cowgirls Get the Blues”.

Van Sant also nurtured a plan to work as a director in a biographical movie about Andy Warhol. He wanted to take River Phoenix in the principal role. But his plan did not become fruitful because of the unfortunate death of Phoenix. He is mostly known for his famous film “Good Will Hunting”.

Van sant also served as an actor in many films. Apart from this, he wrote a considerable number of screenplays. The screenplays of most of his initial films are written by him. Gus van sant got the FIPRESCI Prize in the Toronto Film Festival for his film “My Own Private Idaho” released in 1991. Apart from this, he also received prize for his 1998 film referred to as “Good Will Hunting”. For this film he also got the Academy Award Nomination for Best Director. He was also nominated for this great achievement as a director in the motion pictures. As a writer, he wrote only one novel called “Pink”. He also published a book of photography which is titled “108 Portraits”.

Some very famous films made by Gus van Sant include “Mala Noche”, My Own Private Idaho”, “To Die For”, “Psycho”, and “Gerry”. His film “Paranoid Park” released in the year 2007. Apart from these, Gus van sant also made short fims. Some of short films include “Fun with a Bloodroot”, “Little Johnny”, and “The Happy Organ”. His “Late Morning Start” is also a short film. Released in the year of 1975, “Late Morning Start” is a short film of 28 minutes.
