Baz Luhrmann is an Australia based film director, producer and screenwriter. He is considered as one of the best Hollywood directors. This widely acclaimed movie director has been nominated for Oscar and Golden Globe awards for quite a few times. The films directed by Baz Luhrmann are characterized by the flamboyant theatricality and colors.
Baz Luhrmann was born on 17th September in the year of 1962. He spent his childhood in Heron Creek in the northern New South Wales. His father used to run a movie theater and also a petrol station. Both of these, especially the movie theater had much influence on the professional career of Baz Luhrmann.
As for the schooling of Baz Luhrmann, he got admitted to St. Joseph's Hastings Regional School in Macquarie and later, to Narrabeen High School. In the former, he studied from the year 1975 to 1978. It is during this time that he was given a nickname. His resemblance with the character of Basil Brush inspired others to give him the nickname.
It was on 26th January in 1997 that Baz Luhrmann got married to Catherine Martin who has been the production designer of all the films that have been made by Baz. At present, they have two children in the names of Lillian Amanda Luhrmann and William Alexander Luhrmann.
Besides being nominated for Golden Globe Best Director award, he has also been awarded with Directors Gluid of America Best Director award for his motion pictures. It was mainly for Moulin Rouge that he got the award as well as the nomination.
Among the films made by Baz Luhrmann, some well known ones are are Strictly Ballroom in the year 1992 and Romeo and Juliet in 1996 and Moulin Rouge in the year of 2001. |

All the three movies have been marketed under the banner of The Red Curtain Triology. Moulin Rouge starring Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman, was really a big hit that earned immense popularity and acclamation for Baz Luhrmann.
Baz Luhrmann has continued to explore his ideas in the field of film making. He has also directed a video for Love is in the Air by John Paul Young. The release of this video coincided with the time of release of a film by Baz Luhrmann and it was Strictly Ballroom.
