As USA is know for its famous Hollywood Industry, the whole world respects the quality of movies produced by the American Film Industry. In order to make it a presence felt over the country, the Hollywood Sign came into existence. With the basic purpose of advertising, this famous landmark was created in the Hollywood area of Los Angeles, California. Covering an area of 15.2 m, the 50 ft high white letters make it easily visible by the travelers from distant parts of the district. Among various other attractions of Hollywood, this sign has been one of the major one which seem to represent the fame which Hollywood has acquired.
In the past the sign read “HOLLYWOODLAND,” as the purpose was to advertise a new housing development in the hills above the Hollywood district of Los Angeles. After some of the letters fell down due to some major accidents, the Chamber of Commerce planned to shorten the name into “HOLLYWOOD”. The Hollywood Sign went through different stages of renovation with the last one in 1978.
| It is believed that each letter is built of Australian steel, which cost around $27,700 each. While, Joel Ruiz and Giovanni Mazza donated the letter H and O, the donors like, Les Kelley Gene Autry, Hugh Hefner, Andy Williams, Warner Bros. Records, etc donated the following letters. Since people know about Hollywood and its fame, they try to venture out on a trip to this rich place. While they enter the neighborhood, they can easily see the shinning and everlasting Hollywood Sign standing tall on the Mount Glee. The sign looks glorious and majestic, although it cannot be approached or hiked up to. This sign can be often seen in the movies. People, drive along the Hollywood Boulevard to get the closer view of this sign that reminds us of the glorious presence of Hollywood Industry.
